Sending to Large Groups From a Personal Number: What You Need to Know
Bcc Text slows down the pacing between messages to improve reliability, but for very large groups (100+), splitting into batches is still the best approach. All messages go out through the Messages app on your iPhone, so your phone number is treated exactly like any regular consumer device, not a bulk messaging service.
Carriers expect personal numbers to send messages slowly, usually around 15–50 per minute. When a phone tries to send far more than that, especially to a group larger than 100 people, carriers may temporarily slow, block, or stop the outgoing messages. When this happens, the Messages app may show "Failed to Send" or stop sending partway through.
These issues occur after Bcc Text has handed messages to the Messages app, so the app cannot detect or retry them automatically. The reliability depends on giving the device and the carrier enough time to process each message.
To improve consistency when sending to very large groups:
- Split the audience into batches of about 100 contacts
- Keep the phone plugged in
- Disable Low Power Mode
- Use strong Wi-Fi or strong cellular
- Keep the screen awake and avoid switching apps while the shortcut runs
